We
are Twins, But Who Am I?
Betty Jean Case
Published in 1991, United States
I
immediately find the need to quote directly from the book as these lines touched
my heart. "While most people begin
life as separate human beings and must learn intimacy, twins are born into
intimacy and must learn how to find separateness".
The author is a twin herself who's own interest in writing about twins was
ignited and inspired when she became a grandmother to twin boys.
The author explores the psychological aspects of twinship, through
meeting and discussing with twins their own lives. She discovers some wonderful
stories and learns along the way that many have the same questions and long for
answers and understanding. The book is also loaded with (easy to digest) facts
regarding incidence of occurrence of twins and related studies.
Nurturing self-esteem by recognizing each child as an individual, dealing with
the inevitable comparisons that plague twin's lives and encouraging dialogue and
communication between twins about their own feelings toward each other are just
some of the excellent topics covered by this essential and fascinating read.
